:: Essential guide to the role of the primary NQT induction tutor for new tutors ::
Outline
This course will enable participants to become familiar with all aspects of the induction process, through presentations and discussion groups. Opportunity will be given to focus on the tutor's role and the skills needed to be successful, with a focus on the assessment process, classroom observation as a means of support and challenge, and building an action and support plan for NQTs who experience difficulties.
Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will have:
  • gained an understanding of the induction regulations and the requirements of the induction period, and considered how the Teachers' Standards inform the induction period
  • looked at how to set up a mentoring programme, including setting targets, reviewing progress and the assessment process
  • looked at the use of lesson observation in the induction period
  • considered how to implement an action and support plan for NQTs who are experiencing difficulties
  • gained insight into the mentor-NQT relationship from current NQTs / induction tutors
