:: Launch of the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education 2017-2022 - religion for today and tomorrow ::
Outline
There are new statutory requirements for religious education in Hertfordshire schools from September 2017. This half-day launch event will enable delegates to gain a thorough understanding of the changes and the effect of these upon the learning outcomes and experiences of all pupils. All schools attending will receive a copy of the new Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education 2017-2022 and a hardcopy of the supplementary non-statutory guidance ‘Religion for today and tomorrow’ at no extra charge. Guidance will be provided to support the school curriculum and to meet the statutory requirement to implement the new agreed syllabus document. The launch will comprise of a mixture of key note addresses and interactive approaches to consider the practical and theoretical implications of the new documents. Schools may wish to book places for a senior leader and the subject leader.
Prerequisites
Hard copies of all resources used on the day will be available to take away, and electronic copies available to download afterwards. Non-statutory guidance will be available to purchase for schools who are unable to attend the launch. A range of RE providers will be showcasing the products, services and support they have available. All Hertfordshire community schools and foundation and voluntary schools without a religious character must provide RE in accordance with the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus. The new Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus is recommended for all local Academies who do not have religious designation.
Outcomes:
By attending the event participants will:
  • be briefed to support their schools in the implementation of the new Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education 2017 - 2022
  • gain knowledge and understanding of the requirements for teaching and learning in religious education in Hertfordshire from September 2017
  • examine some new recommendations for assessing religious education and raising pupil attainment
  • explore the non-statutory support materials for curriculum guidance ‘Religion for today and tomorrow’
