:: Capturing the progress of pupils with SEND: assessment tools to dig deeper and measure small steps ::
Outline
This updated two-day course will explore a range of assessment tools and curriculum resources available for all SENCOs to use in schools. These tools will help delegates with the ‘assess, plan, do, review’ cycle, adding depth to the range of other information already gathered through normal school systems and, of course, discussions with pupils and their families. This additional information will help SENCOs support classroom teachers in the planning stage to support and develop those areas of need and overcome barriers to learning. There will be an opportunity to explore the Rochford review recommendations for the long term solution on how best to assess the attainment and progress of pupils working well below the standard expected for their age.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • explore resources to help articulate the progress of pupils with SEND in a more meaningful and individual way
  • consider how policy and practice can be designed to promote the outcome of all pupils and how this aligns with the ‘graduated approach’ for pupils with SEND
  • have increased confidence in contributing to the early and accurate identification of a pupil’s SEN and any requirements for support and intervention
