:: Achieving mathematical age-related expectations in Year 2 ::
Outline
Grappling with the aims and content within the Key Stage 1 curriculum and the continuously changing assessment framework, it is increasingly important to understand what age-related expectations should look like. The course will look at the changes in the Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF) seen in 2018 and those coming in 2019 to ensure that teachers are ready to adapt the learning appropriately. This course will support Year 1 and 2 teachers to help their pupils achieve the national standard and modify teaching to accelerate learning so that pupils maximise their potential. During the day, you will investigate the key mathematical concepts that children find tricky and explore teaching strategies to guide them towards success. This will allow teachers an opportunity to map out their long-term plan across the year implementing the strategies and activities they will gain from the day.
Outcomes:
By attending the course, participants will:
  • identify key learning and the changes in the Teachers’ Assessment Framework in Key Stage 1 and consider strategies to meet end of year statements
  • explore barriers which might prevent pupils from achieving national expectations
  • develop new strategies to support children in applying their learning in more challenging problem-solving and reasoning contexts
  • be provided with many ideas that can be adapted immediately in classrooms
