:: Raising the standards in religious education at Upper Key Stage 2 ::
By attending this course, participants will be prepared for developing and extending religious education teaching, learning and assessment at Upper Key Stage 2 (UKS2). The focus is to ensure that the RE curriculum meets pupils' needs, raises standards, meets the legal requirements and secures high-quality religious education for all. This one-day course will provide UKS2 teachers with high-impact teaching support and inspiring content to guide them in the planning, implementation and assessment of RE in line with the statutory requirements set out in the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus of Religious Education for Years 5 and 6. Throughout the day, delegates will explore the rich internal diversity of belief responses in Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and other worldviews. This course will assist practitioners in generating and developing accessible, classroom-ready, engaging ideas and concepts for immediate implementation. Contributing towards securing and developing the delegate’s subject knowledge and advancing pupils’ religious and theological literacy.
Delegates would benefit from being familiar with the KS2 requirements set out in the Hertfordshire Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, 2017-2022 and the non-statutory supporting guidance Religion for Today and Tomorrow publication
The aims of the course are to:
  • explore inspiring ways to implement UKS2 programmes of study, develop pupils’ religious and theological literacy and raise pupil attainment
  • promote and advance pupils’ critical thinking, curiosity an understanding of challenging issues
  • gain knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements for teaching UKS2 RE
  • explore appropriate methods of assessment
