:: Closing the gaps: accelerating progress in English at Key Stage 2 ::
"Each child needs adults who take the time to understand and personalise provision; through quality first teaching, to help overcome barriers to learning, through the systematic application of what works well." Narrowing the Gaps: from data analysis to impact - the golden thread. (DfE). This comprehensive course, which builds on the success of recent action research carried out with schools, has been developed in response to feedback. The day encompasses both reading and writing, bringing the best of subject expertise together to help close gaps for our vulnerable pupils. Under-attaining pupils or those falling behind, are everyone's concern, as is how to manage differentiating provision in an increasingly demanding classroom environment. During the day, we will unpick the aspects of literacy that often hold pupils back. We will then look at strategies to support pupils' understanding in these areas and close gaps in their learning to increase engagement with - and confidence in - reading and writing.
Delegates will need to bring with them up to four writing books to the session of children causing you a concern in spelling.
By attending the course, participants will:
  • explore the principles and practices behind scaffolding in writing and reading
  • take away practical approaches to supporting struggling writers and readers in Key Stage 2
  • develop a deeper understanding of differentiating to meet a range of needs and learning styles
Suitable for:
  • Classroom Teachers
  • INCos/ SENCos
