:: Effective approaches to teaching English and mathematics in Key Stage 1 ::
Outline
This is a practical course for NQTs and early career teachers looking to further develop planning for a creative and engaging curriculum for English and mathematics in Key Stage 1. This course will help delegates take a fresh look at their teaching and develop a range of innovative approaches. Delegates will be supported to enhance their planning in a manageable fashion through teaching strategies based on sound assessment and identify ways to really engage pupils in their learning. They will return to the classroom with a variety of ideas and approaches that can be adapted to a range of contexts. There will be opportunities during the day to work collaboratively with colleagues to develop further ideas.
Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will have:
  • explored ways to plan a creative and engaging curriculum for English and mathematics
  • enhanced teaching strategies and approaches to engage pupils, secure and deepen learning
  • developed a range of approaches to use ongoing assessment to support planning, learning and teaching
  • a range of ideas to take away and immediately try out in the classroom
