:: Year 3 and 4 spelling: the fine detail and application ::
Outline
The National Curriculum has an increased emphasis on spelling and this course has been designed to up-skill Year 3 and 4 teachers with subject knowledge as well as provide a range of strategies for the teaching and learning of spelling. During the day, delegates will have the opportunity to explore the Year 3 and 4 programme in detail, which will include coverage of phonemic, morphological and etymological subject knowledge. Delegates will be able to consider ways in which they can incorporate these into the teaching of spelling within the programme of study.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • improve their subject knowledge and understanding of progression in spelling
  • gain confidence in teaching spelling at whole class level
  • develop expertise in assessment, teaching, marking and feedback
  • develop a repertoire of strategies for teaching the statements in the National Curriculum
  • support their pupils to become increasingly independent spellers
