:: Phase 2-4 phonics: teaching and supporting 'Letters and Sounds' ::
Outline
This course will give delegates the confidence to plan, teach and assess phases 2-4 of ‘Letters and Sounds’ and support the application of these skills within reading and writing. The session is designed to support delegates in developing their understanding of phonic acquisition. Some basic phonics subject knowledge is assumed.
Outcomes:
The aim of the course is to:
  • develop an understanding of the acquisition of phonological awareness
  • develop an understanding of the phonic phases 2-4 as well as assessment and progression
  • build confidence in planning for and delivering the daily phonics teaching sequence and assessing pupils' progress
  • examine strategies for supporting pupil's application of phonics across the curriculum
