:: Take one book: enriching reading and writing in Year 5 and 6 ::
This essential half-day session will explore how to make the most of planning a themed unit around great children’s literature. Take one book is an exciting and engaging way to enrich pupils’s reading and writing skills through the study of a single text. Classes will make visible progress in a short space of time as existing skills are swiftly embedded and improved. This course offers both experienced and less experienced teachers the opportunity to consider an alternative approach to planning that will run alongside their existing planning for the national curriculum, enhance learning and lead to improved outcomes. Teachers will learn how to design a range of writing in a variety of text types, all in response to the chosen book. They will consider how to use AFL to plan a tailored unit for their class, to both support and extend each writer. They will leave with planning outlines and practical ideas that can immediately be used in class.
