:: Key stage 1 grammar: the fine detail and application ::
Outline
This course will explore the grammar element of the Year 1 and Year 2 programmes of study from the National Curriculum, using text-based activities. Delegates will engage with practical and fun approaches to securing pupils' understanding of sentence structure and key terminology, together with clear and concise definitions and explanations. Delegates will also consider how grammar is taught alongside composition to create and change meaning. During the session, delegates will engage with a range of approaches that can be embedded in future planning for engaging lessons that build their pupils' understanding and interest.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • explore the Year 1 and Year 2 grammar programme of study
  • develop clear and concise definitions and explanations of the grammatical elements
  • identify appropriate pedagogical approaches to develop pupils’ understanding
  • explore text-based approaches to exemplify how grammar creates meaning
