:: Flourishing mindfully in schools ::
Outline
This three-part course is designed for teachers wanting to bring mindfulness and positive psychology including the encouragement of growth mindsets into their whole-school approach. The course provides teachers with a useful insight into the basics of mindfulness and provides ideas to support young people to flourish. It will look at research into its impact and will make the case for schools adopting mindfulness as part of their everyday routines. This unique programme combines the principles of mindfulness, positive psychology, and action for happiness. It uses as guideline the findings outlined in Martin Seligman’s book, 'Flourishing', whilst encouraging teachers to use 'growth mindsets' as a whole-school approach, based on the work of Carol Dweck. The programme aims to demystify relevant psychological research, by providing a practical course that not only helps to benefit teachers’ emotional health and wellbeing but offers realistic teaching ideas to trial within the school. The benefits of mindfulness are well documented but this course aims to combine approaches to provide a hugely beneficial whole-school approach. During this practical course opportunities to practise mindfulness approaches and to consider their application in a school setting will be provided.
