:: Mandatory relationships education: keeping my body safe (Key Stage 1 and 2) ::
Outline
This course will explore key elements within the mandatory relationships education guidelines that help children to stay safe. Teaching safeguarding is a core element across the new curriculum. We will particularly cover relevant teaching about online and offline safety, the naming of sexual body parts and how to introduce knowledge of safe/unsafe touch.
Outcomes:
The aims of the course are to:
  • identify safeguarding elements in delivering the new relationships education guidelines and approaches to their delivery in the classroom
  • explore ways to cover the naming of sexual organs and helping children to understand what is private and what is public
  • explore how to teach about safe/unsafe touches and consent issues in an age appropriate way
  • explore the successful coverage of ways to keep safe online and in the real world
