:: Running successful parent engagement sessions and building parent parnership for relationship (and sex) education (primary) ::
Outline
Effective consultation and partnership with parents can reduce parental anxieties around relationships education and concerns around sexuality. It can also empower schools to deliver high-quality, needs-led RSE that safeguards pupils effectively. This course will provide schools with practical tips on how to work in partnership with parents in ways that seek to enhance pupils’ learning experiences, including exploring how to support parents to build on RSE in the home, developing important channels of communication with their child.
Outcomes:
The aims of the course are to:
  • consider how to deliver an effective parental engagement session on relationships education and/or age appropriate RSE
  • anticipate and consider how to overcome parental anxieties and contentious responses to RSE
  • provide guidance and information to parents to support the curriculum in the home
  • support parents with knowledge, terminology and further reading so they are confident to open conversations about puberty changes and sex with their child
  • ways to share appropriate resources with parents
