Outline
This course will provide participants with an overview of the characteristics and needs of pupils learning English as an additional language. It will support schools with embedding the structures and resources necessary to accelerate the progress and attainment of these pupils. Participants will learn how new language is acquired, which areas of language development are most challenging and which strategies are most supportive.
Outcomes:
The aims of the course are to:
  • further knowledge and understanding of EAL pedagogy
  • explore a range of useful classroom strategies to support EAL learners
  • deepen understanding of the characteristics of EAL pupils including those with SEN
