:: Getting mathematics right at Key Stage 3 ::
Outline
No building is stronger than its foundations: a similar principle applies to the learning of mathematics – arguably more than in any other subject. For this reason, Key Stage 3 maths has never been more important: the training ground where understanding of many important concepts is developed and deepened. This course will look at how to help students acquire this deep understanding, through the use of appropriate activities; the structure of schemes of work; and through the effective use of assessment.
Outcomes:
By attending the session, participants will:
  • develop their understanding of how Key Stage 3 can be used to maximise students’ performance at GCSE
  • identify the key building blocks it is necessary to put in place for future success in mathematics
  • explore a range of rich activities which will help students gain a deep understanding of the subject
  • explore successful policies for transition between Key Stages 2 and 3
  • discuss a range of assessment models which give a true picture of what students can do
Suitable for:
  • Classroom Teachers
  • Heads of Department/Faculty
  • New/Aspiring Subject Leaders
