:: Primary Curriculum Symposium 2019: Development Programme ::
Outline
An extended development programme that brings together a wealth of expert voices to allow school leaders to make informed curriculum decisions for their school. Ensuring access to a rich, broad and balanced curriculum is at the heart of effective school provision. School leaders should rightly invest time and energy into making sure that the decisions they make are well informed, and right for their school. However, making decisions in this key area of school development can seem daunting. The Curriculum Symposium intends to address this by offering a safe space for school leaders to come together to engage with information from a wealth of experts who have considerable expertise within this area of school development. Across three conferences, delegates will gain insight from well-respected speakers ranging from academics and theorists, practising headteachers and senior leaders, and subject and phase specialists who are able to discuss how the curriculum debates can be interpreted within their specialists age-ranges and subject domains. Schools on the extended development programme will attend an additional session at the end of each conference, where their allocated school effectiveness adviser will guide leaders to deliberate upon the information presented in light of each school’s particular needs and contexts. This will provide a further opportunity to consider the information presented, as well as develop supportive networks with other schools. Following the conference days, participating schools will have a half-day consultancy visit, which will allow them to continue the conversations back in their school setting, as well as consider next steps. The extended development programme will conclude with a half-day showcase where participating schools will have the opportunity to share how they have progressed in their journey towards evaluating and developing their curriculum offer, as well as hear from colleagues on the programme who have travelled along the same learning path. The cost of the extended development programme is £1,120 per school for two delegates, which includes attendance at the three conference days, a half-day consultancy visit and the final showcase event. It is recommended that the headteacher attends with another senior leader, or chair of governors. Additional delegates from the same school are charged at £335 per delegate.
