:: Preparing for a curriculum inspection in primary geography and history ::
Outline
This half-day course is designed for subject leaders of primary geography and history who wish to explore ways of reviewing and presenting an overview/rationale for primary geography and history to help effectively capture curriculum intent, implementation and impact in these subject areas in preparation for the September 2019 inspection framework. This course will provide key subject-specific questions to enable rag rating of the current strengths and areas for development in the school curriculum. Delegates are invited to bring samples of pupils’ work. Please note: this course is designed as an introduction on how to review and health check an established geography and history curriculum, what to look for and typical pitfalls to avoid. New or current subject leaders who feel they would benefit from a broader single subject-based developmental day may find the full-day course, 'Essentials for new subject leaders' in the first half of the autumn term of more benefit.
Outcomes:
By attending the course, participants will:
  • establish clarity on the key concepts underpinning the components of the primary geography and history national curriculum
  • discuss how to review the strengths and areas for development in geography and history, and capture an overview/rationale of the curriculum
  • review sample ‘rationales’ for each subject
  • discuss typical questions to expect in a subject leader meeting with Ofsted on the primary history or geography curriculum, and how to prepare for them
Suitable for:
  • New/Aspiring Subject Leaders
  • Subject Leaders
