:: Promoting pupils' understanding of British values through primary history and geography ::
Outline
This course explores engaging and practical ways in which pupils’ understanding of democracy, the rule of law, and the importance of individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs can be developed in primary history and geography. The course will explore a range of active ‘hands-on’ age-appropriate ideas and resources that develop pupils’ understanding of modern Britain.
Outcomes:
By attending the training, participants will:
  • discuss and gain hands-on experience of ways in which teaching British values can be incorporated into practical and engaging classroom activities for pupils, linked to history and geography
  • review and take away a bank of resources, practical ideas and weblinks to share with staff relating to the promotion of British values through history and geography
  • gain documentation to audit how an understanding of British values is being promoted through history and geography, using DfE descriptors
