:: Science assessment moderation cluster for Lower Key Stage 2 ::
Outline
This cluster meeting will give teachers an opportunity to discuss their evidence for Lower Key Stege 2 (LKS2) science teacher assessment with other teachers and science advisers. This will be particularly useful in identifying any gaps in pupils' skills and understanding that need to be addressed before the final assessments are made. We recommend that teachers bring evidence for a pupil who they expect to achieve the expected standard at the end of LKS2, and for a pupil who they expect to be working above the expected standard. Teachers will also be able to explore exemplification materials and creative examples of how pupils can demonstrate their understanding in science.
Prerequisites
Delegate should bring pupil work from one pupil expected to be working at the expected standard and one pupil expected to be working above the expected standard.
Outcomes:
By attending the course, participants will:
  • develop confidence in understanding what secure understanding of scientific concepts and skills looks like at LKS2
  • have an opportunity to moderate their assessments with other colleagues, to develop consistency
  • highlight next steps in learning for pupils in their classes
  • explore a range of ways pupils can show their skills and understanding in science
  • consider a range of teaching and learning strategies to develop working scientifically skills and key science understanding
