:: Effective English planning and teaching: using rich texts to plan productive teaching sequences at Lower Key Stage 2 ::
This course will provide NQTs with an overview of proven successful strategies to inspire and enable writers. Course tutors will model how effective strategies can be applied creatively within the classroom as part of a unit of work. Delegates will explore selecting quality texts, using models for writing effectively, shared writing, drama and role play, and oral rehearsal, as well as strategies to embed key writing skills. The course will exemplify strategies for internalising language patterns and developing vocabulary. Delegates will also examine Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies, and how these can be used to maximise progress, including: generating clear learning objectives and success criteria; effective use of peer and self-assessment; adapting planning to meet the needs of learners in their class, and planning for effective interventions. Delegates will be supported to plan a teaching sequence for use back in class. This course is most suitable to NQTs and those teachers early in their career. This course would also suit overseas trained teachers, those returning to teaching or moving key stage.
