:: Policy to Practice: Time to Bacc Languages? ::
This new one-day conference is for headteachers, senior leaders and subject leaders of languages who wish to widen participation and improve outcomes in languages at Key Stage 4, to equip their students with the linguistic and intercultural competencies to prepare them for a global future. Our keynote speaker will be a representative from the DfE's Ebacc team setting out government policy in relation to languages. This will be followed by a series of presentations and workshops looking at various issues around language learning including access to languages and social justice, harnessing the skills of EAL students, developing students' global outlook through a range of British Council Programmes and alternatives to GCSE, amongst others. This will be a high-profile event to support school leaders in taking their language provision to the next stage, subject leaders in developing the curriculum and engaging wider participation at Key Stages 4 and 5 and students in getting the most from languages in school.
The aims of the conference are to:
  • examine the issues and challenges around the government's Ebacc targets
  • look at how language departments can work towards these targets while securing good outcomes
  • contribute to student social mobility through access to languages and the development of cultural agility
Suitable for:
  • Curriculum/Subject Leaders
