:: Top grade booster for GCSE mathematics teachers: building resilience for GCSE higher tier students aiming to gain grades 8 or 9 ::
Outline
This half-day session will support teachers and schools in enabling their students to succeed at higher tier GCSE. This session will focus on the needs of students aiming to gain grades 8 or 9. This is an afternoon session only. Delegates wishing to book onto the morning session will need to do so separately (the morning session will focus on strategies to turn grade 6s into grade 7s). Delegates may attend either or both sessions. Lunch to be supplied for those delegates attending both sessions only.
Outcomes:
By attending the session, participants will:
  • be introduced to teaching strategies and activities through which students can gain a deeper understanding of the higher tier specification
  • build on the work being done around the country on challenging topics such as proof
  • meet the needs of the highest attainers in mathematics
  • explore ways to improve students’ abilities and confidence in problem-solving
  • gain a thorough understanding of how the papers are assessed, and the good habits needed for students to get full value for their work.
