:: Moving from acceleration towards depth as challenge in Lower Key Stage 2 ::
How is acceleration different to depth as challenge? How can teachers increase the level of challenge within their maths classroom? What strategies are effective in ensuring depth for the "rapid graspers"? This course will explore how to move pupils through the programme of study "at broadly the same pace" whilst providing opportunities to challenge all through deepening and broadening pupils' experiences. Delegates will be considering how effective use of strategies such as reasoning, building complexity, increasing the range of representations and development of pupil independence can transform learning in the classroom and pupils' deepen their thinking.
By attending the course, participants will:
  • know what is meant by challenge in maths within the National Curriculum
  • explore a range of strategies which enable all pupils to be challenged appropriately
  • gain ideas for rich learning experiences within Lower Key Stage 2 which will provide a richer and deeper curriculum for pupils grasping learning rapidly
