:: Achieving mathematical age-related expectations in Year 6 ::
Grappling with the aims and content within the Upper Key Stage 2 (UKS2) curriculum, it is increasingly important to understand what age-related expectations should look like. Aimed at teachers working with Year 6 pupils, this course will support practitioners with strategies, practical ideas and resources that can be used to enable pupils to secure age-related learning by the end of the UKS2 phase. This course will support teachers to help their pupils achieve the national standard and modify teaching to accelerate learning so that pupils achieve their potential. During the day, delegates will investigate the key mathematical concepts that pupils find tricky alongside being given practical strategies to develop thinking using mathematical resources in the classroom. This will allow teachers an opportunity to map out their long-term plan across the year. By providing exemplifications of possible sequences of learning, teachers will develop further familiarity with the Year 6 content while developing a sequence to teach back in their own classroom tailored to suit the needs of their pupils.
The aims of the course are to:
  • identify key learning in UKS2 and consider strategies to meet end of year statements
  • explore barriers which might prevent pupils from achieving national expectations
  • develop new strategies to support pupils in applying their learning in more challenging problem-solving and reasoning contexts
  • explore exemplifications of possible learning sequences
Suitable for:
  • Classroom Teachers
  • Subject Leaders
