:: Stretch and challenge for high-attaining pupils at Key Stage 2 ::
Outline
This course will support schools to tailor their curriculum to meet the needs of, and challenge, their more-able writers. It will cover the identification of pupils who, despite attaining well, are at risk of 'falling behind' (Ofsted 2015). Delegates will go on to explore a range of highly engaging texts and approaches that will inspire and develop technical skills, individual voice and style. In Key Stage 2 rich source materials will consider how the exemplified approaches may be used to develop a writers' culture in class that marries high expectations with high-quality outcomes for all.
Outcomes:
By attending the course, participants will:
  • gain a deeper understanding of the needs of higher attaining writers and explore how to provide stretch and challenge within whole-class teaching
  • develop a set of approaches and strategies to providing challenge in writing that can be adapted and shared in school
  • enjoy greater confidence in facilitating thoughtful classroom talk; deeper responses to text; and creative, accurate writing bases around inspiring texts
Suitable for:
  • Classroom Teachers
  • Subject Leaders
