Teaching or supporting pupils with Year 1 age-related phonics and spelling? Wondering how to continue using Letters and Sounds Phase 5, in-line with the curriculum changes? National Curriculum 2014 introduces Year 1 pupils to increased expectations and revised content with regard to application of phonics for reading and spelling. Led by experts, the day unpicks key subject knowledge through using practical ideas and hands-on activities, including those taken from Letters and Sounds. Delegates will leave feeling confident to carry out effective planning, delivery and assessment of Year 1 phonics and spelling. It will help delegates to prepare pupils for both the reading screening check and teacher assessment of writing. The approaches could also be useful for those supporting pupils with gaps as this stage of development.
