Herts for Learning Online
:: Securing age-related expectations in English - Year 6 ::
Outline
This established course has supported teachers with understanding the aims and content of the Upper Key Stage 2 national curriculum. It will enable practitioners to recognise what age-related outcomes should look like and secure effective pathways to these end goals. We will unpick the teacher assessment frameworks for 2019 and support teachers with ways to modify teaching approaches in order to accelerate learning so that pupils achieve their potential. Aimed at practitioners in year 5 and year 6, we will share strategies, practical ideas and resources for improving outcomes in reading, writing and spelling.
Prerequisites
Delegates should bring no more than four writing books to the session. Ideally, these will be from children targeted to reach ARE by the end of the year. Examples of books the children are reading, or which are being read to them, will also be helpful.
Outcomes:
By attending the session, participants will:
  • identify key learning in UKS2 and consider strategies to meet end of year statements
  • explore barriers which might prevent pupils from achieving national expectations
  • develop a range of strategies to support pupils in their learning
Suitable for:
  • Classroom Teachers
