:: Curriculum beyond the classroom: using the great outdoors ::
Outline
This is a cross-curricular course that looks at elements from many subjects including mathematics, science, English, modern foreign language, history and geography. Delegates will explore creative opportunities for using the outdoor environment for practical problem solving within mathematics, scientific investigations, and delivering cross-curricular content using outdoor activities. The resources provided can be used back in school to help teachers set exciting mathematical challenges, create science trails and outdoor interactive areas around the school. This course will help delegates develop activities to aid the delivery of the National Curriculum.
Prerequisites
Delegates will need to bring outdoor clothing suitable for any weather on the day
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • have the opportunity to consider a range of stimulating activities and resources relevant for all attainment levels
  • have developed outdoor practical activities for children of all abilities including some simple data collection
  • have considered relevant health and safety issues for outdoor activities and for sites away from the main school grounds
