:: Essential guide to the role of the primary NQT induction tutor for new tutors ::
This course will enable participants to become familiar with all aspects of the induction process through presentations and discussion groups. Opportunity will be given to focus on the tutor's role and skills needed to be successful, with a focus on the assessment process, classroom observation as a means of support, and challenge and building a support plan for NQTs who experience difficulties.
By the end of the course participants will have:
  • gained an understanding of the induction regulations and the requirements of the induction period and considered how the Teachers' Standards inform the induction period
  • looked at how to set up a mentoring programme including setting targets, reviewing progress and the assessment process
  • looked at the use of lesson observation in the induction year
  • considered how to implement a support plan for NQTs who are experiencing difficulties
  • gained insight of the tutor/NQT relationship from current NQTs/induction tutors
