Herts for Learning Online
:: Teaching and assessing reading comprehension ::
Outline
This day will be full of practical activities and resources to support the teaching and assessment of reading comprehension in Years 1 to 6. These will be linked to the content domains for the end of Key Stage English reading tests. The National Curriculum statements contain very little progression guidance across Years 3/4 and 5/6 as pitch is to be informed by increasing complexity of the text. This course will provide a wealth of ideas and approaches to support the gathering of evidence to support teacher assessment.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • gain a deeper understanding of the progression in the skills of reading comprehension
  • develop planning which maximises assessment opportunities
  • explore the links between the spoken language and reading comprehension programmes of study
  • engage with a wide range of practical activities and leave with a bank of resources to support teaching and assessment
Suitable for:
  • Assessment Coordinators
  • Classroom Teachers
Being delivered by Kerry Godsman and Jane Andrews
