:: Teaching computing at upper Key Stage 2 ::
Outline
This course is designed to support upper Key Stage 2 teaching staff in delivering the computing curriculum at upper KS2 (Years 5 and 6). It will enhance their understanding of computing and will support them in developing creative approaches to engage their pupils. The course is aligned with the 2014 computing curriculum and for those teaching the Primary Computing Scheme, it provides an input into the upper KS2 section. We will spend the morning developing delegates’ understanding of the key computer science concepts for upper KS2, and how we teach them. In the afternoon, we will look at other areas of the 2014 computing curriculum. The course will cover: teaching programming concepts and building programming skills including unplugged approaches and using Scratch and Logo; developing the use of spreadsheets; an overview of sound recording and editing using Audacity; understanding computer networks; exploring 3D graphical modelling; developing safe online practice.
