:: Teaching computing at Key Stage 1 ::
Outline
This course is designed to support Key Stage 1 teaching staff in enhancing their understanding of computing. It will support them in developing creative approaches to engage their pupils. The course is aligned with the 2014 computing curriculum and for those teaching the Primary Computing Scheme, it provides an input into the Key Stage 1 section. We will spend the morning developing delegates’ understanding of the key computer science concepts for KS1, and how we teach them. In the afternoon we will look at other areas of the 2014 computing curriculum. The course will cover: algorithms and programming, including unplugged programming and working with programmable devices, both physical and on-screen; exploring, comparing and creating simple digital content including image and animation; simple data handling including using dataloggers and branching databases; developing digital research and communication skills.
