:: Learning to lead - successful leadership of primary computing ::
Outline
This is a two-day course aimed at new or aspiring computing subject leaders in the primary phase. Through a mix of presentation, discussion, and practical activities, the course will support participants in beginning to lead computing in their schools with confidence and understanding. The emphasis is on the strategic development of computing and the course embraces the development of materials around the school vision, action planning, monitoring and self-review as well as the key area of eSafety. During the course, delegates will be provided with a range of tools and resources to support them in many aspects of their role.
Prerequisites
Please bring a memory stick or portable hard drive so that you can save and take away the useful resources we will provide.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • have gained a detailed knowledge and understanding of the key areas that are essential for the successful leadership of computing in schools
  • develop/review a whole-school vision for computing and use this to support their own development or action plan
  • develop a greater understanding of eSafety in schools, including the importance of eSafety and/or acceptable use policies and agreements, considering copyright, ownership and strategies for supporting safe online behaviour
  • consider the planning and assessment of computing in schools using the new HfL assessment approach and the importance of embedding computing across the curriculum
  • review such areas as computing resources management, subject leader monitoring, self-review and staff development
