Outline
This innovative and timely course aims to reignite teachers' passion for teaching writing, by demonstrating how the grammar, punctuation and spelling aspects of effective writing can be taught creatively in a way that supports children to use these skills to expertly craft their own written pieces. The process of shared writing is crucial in achieving this outcome. This course will exemplify in detail each stage of this process, helping delegates to hone their understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to make this pedagogical approach work effectively in raising standards in writing. The course will outline two teaching sequences (a fiction and non-fiction), showing when and how shared writing can be used to produce quality written outcomes.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • develop their skills and understanding of the different stages of shared writing and how they can support dramatic improvement in pupil's written outcome
  • be supported to see how the spelling, grammar and punctuation elements of the curriculum can be taught in a way that both improves pupils' subject knowledge as well as their writing
