Outline
Teaching or supporting pupils with Year 1 age related phonics and spelling? National Curriculum 2014 introduces Year 1 pupils to increased expectations and revised content with regard to the application of phonics for reading and spelling. Led by experts, the day unpicks key subject knowledge through using practical ideas and hands-on activities. Delegates will leave feeling confident to carry out effective planning, delivery and assessment of Year 1 phonics and spelling. It will help delegates to prepare pupils for both the reading screening check and teacher assessment of writing. The approaches could also be useful for those supporting pupils who have gaps at this stage of development. Those who have attended Phase 5-6 training before the 2014 curriculum was implemented would also benefit from this course, as some aspects are new into Year 1 and some are no longer necessary.
Prerequisites
Delegates who have previously attended 'Year 1 What's new and What's not' need not attend.
