Outline
This course is designed for those who are new to the role of designated senior person (DSP) for child protection and have completed level one safeguarding children training for school staff. The course explores the role and the responsibilities of the DSP. This course is for all schools in the Hertfordshire area.
Prerequisites
Delegates must have completed level one safeguarding children training for school staff. Ideally delegates should also have completed integrated practice training. This course is for all schools in the Hertfordshire area.
Outcomes:
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
  • define the concept of significant harm and demonstrate an understanding of children’s needs and appropriate responses to these
  • summarise national and local safeguarding children frameworks and identify the safeguarding duties and responsibilities that schools have
  • identify learning from serious case reviews and the impact on safeguarding practice
  • explain both the organisational safeguarding responsibilities and the individual casework responsibilities of the DSP. This will include consideration of training, policy development and implementation, auditing, recording, referral processes, working with parents and inter-agency working
  • demonstrate an understanding of effective safeguarding arrangements in school
