:: Exploring technology in the Early Years Foundation Stage ::
Outline
This course is designed to support EYFS staff in providing exploration and learning opportunities around technology. It will provide innovative approaches which can be used to engage children’s interest, not just using technology, but also developing a curiosity about how that technology works. The course provides EYFS teaching staff an essential foundation for the 2014 computing curriculum. For those using the HfL Primary Computing Scheme, the content is mapped to the EYFS potential learning themes. The course will cover: exploring, using and developing understanding of classroom tools; investigating simple onscreen activities; sharing data from different sources, including pictograms and data sensing tools; capturing, creating and exploring digital images; supporting early interest in programming through the use of unplugged programming approaches as well as exploring simple programmable toys; investigating simple digital mark-making and writing; using simple sound devices to capture and playback sound; encouraging children to develop curiosity about the technological world around them; understanding the eSafety aspect for EYFS.
Prerequisites
Please bring a USB stick to this session - you will want to take away some of the resources you create.
Outcomes:
By attending the course participants will:
  • develop their understanding of supporting young children in exploring technology safely and creatively
  • explore and develop useful resources and approaches
  • develop confidence in providing a good foundation for children in accessing the 2014 computing curriculum (including the latest version of the HfL Primary Computing Scheme)
  • have hands-on experience of relevant iPad/tablet apps
  • explore and use technology in a creative and fun way
