:: Developing the MAT governance regime: the role of the director/trustee on a MAT Board ::
This special briefing for governors of academies and free schools is run in partnership with solicitors Winkworth Sherwood. Whilst MAT and Single Academy governors will be given priority, everyone is welcome.
Gain an enhanced understanding of the role of the director (trustee) on the MAT Board. Governors on Multi Academy Trust (MAT) Boards are also directors of academy trust companies and need to be aware of relevant requirements of company law, charity law, the Academies Financial Handbook and the Education (Independent School Standards) regulations and develop a practical and meaningful system of governance with the governing boards of the individual academies within the MAT.
Delegates will gain:
an understanding of the legal structure of a MAT and the roles of directors/trustees
an appreciation of what it means to be a charitable company
an overview of different MAT models and schemes of delegation to governing boards of individual academies within the MAT
managing risks in MATs
corporate functions and statutory returns
person of Significant Control (PSC) regulations
awareness of DfE and NGA guidance.
