:: Exclusions: Cluster Session ::
This course is useful to all governors, and essential to those who serve on the Discipline Committee. It will examine the procedures relating to pupil exclusion, cover new legislative requirements and help governors understand their roles.We recommend that panel members are re-trained every 2 years.
An understanding of and insight into the exclusion process including the procedures for a governing body’s decision to uphold a permanent exclusion to be reviewed by the Independent Review Panel
An update on exclusion legislation and guidance
To summarise the different responsibilities of the head teacher, governing body and local authority in the exclusion process
To examine the functions of the Governors' Discipline Committee and the role of governors in reviewing exclusions
Excluding a pupil involves a statutory process that governors should ensure they perform legally and effectively. The whole area of the school's behaviour policy, pastoral support programmes and exclusions procedures will be considered. There will be a mixture of tutor input, group activity/discussion and an opportunity to ask questions.
