The governing body or academy trust has full responsibility for the school’s admission arrangements. This course will explain to governors their full legal responsibilities with regard to admission throughout the academic year as outlined in the School Admissions Code. It will cover the statutory timescales and requirements, the admission application and allocation process (process and in year) and consultation requirements.

Aimed at governors of own admission authority schools

By attending this training session governors will be able to:
  • Understand the legal requirements for governors relating to admissions including
    • Responsibilities of admission authorities
    • Applications and allocation authorities
    • Admission arrangements :
        1. Oversubscription criteria – What you can and don’t do!
        2. Withdrawing places
        3.Fair Access
      • Consultation requirements


      Subscribers to Governor Training: £15.00
      Non-subscribing schools: £50.00 per delegate

      Cancellation of this training event requires 16 working days’ notice before a 50% cancellation charge and if we are notified within 5 working days of the course there is a 100% cancellation charge. To cancel please email training@hertsforlearning.co.uk (cancellations will not be received by phone) otherwise

    • non-subscribers are charged the full cost of the training (£50 per delegate)
    • subscribers are charged £15 per delegate .
