Outline
How can pupils be taught the skills to justify, connect, evaluate and generalise, to deepen their understanding? How can pupils be supported to demonstrate their reasoning in simple and effective ways? This practical course, adapted this term for an NQT audience, will support teachers in developing a wealth of adaptable activities that promote reasoning and sense-making matched to the curriculum expectations. Helping pupils develop their mathematical thinking through what they can say and what they can show is an important aspect of the reasoning aim. Delegates will explore how to develop crucial reasoning habits in their learners. NQTs working towards the teaching standard of "setting high expectations, which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils" and "demonstrating good curriculum and subject knowledge" will find this course valuable in supporting their thinking in these areas. This course is most suitable to NQTs and those teachers early in their career. This course would also suit overseas-trained teachers, those returning to teaching or moving key stage.
Outcomes:
The aims of the course are to:
